Coimbatore: A Journey That Left Us Reflecting
Peace in Coimbatore

A Different Side of Tamil Nadu

After the cool hills and peaceful atmosphere of Ooty and Coonoor, arriving in Coimbatore felt like entering a completely different world. The city was busier, warmer, and far more urban, yet it had a charm of its own.

During our short stay, we explored the area around our hotel, discovered local restaurants, and experienced a different pace of life from what we had grown accustomed to in the Nilgiris. One practical thing we learned was that booking app-based cabs can sometimes be challenging, so it is helpful to keep local transport options in mind while travelling.

One place that particularly caught our attention was Shree Anandhaas Restaurant. The restaurant was always bustling with people, and its impressive sweets section immediately convinced us that we would return before leaving the city.

The Experience That Stayed With Me

On our final day, we planned a visit to Adiyogi.

The morning did not begin particularly well. I woke up with a severe headache that gradually worsened as the day progressed. By the time we were travelling towards Adiyogi, I was also feeling nauseous.

Yet the moment I saw the magnificent Adiyogi Shiva statue, something unexpected happened.

Tears began flowing from my eyes.

Even today, I struggle to explain exactly what I felt in that moment. It wasn't sadness, nor was it excitement. It was simply an overwhelming emotional experience that touched something deep within me.

The energy of the place felt powerful and peaceful at the same time. As I stood there looking at the statue, surrounded by the atmosphere of the complex, I felt a sense of connection that words cannot fully describe.

I immediately called my sister to show her the view, and she was equally amazed.

We later visited the Dhyanalinga, received Rudraksha Prasadam, and spent time exploring the complex. If you are planning a visit, I would strongly recommend setting aside an entire day. There is far more to experience than most visitors initially realise.

We left with the feeling that we would like to return one day, perhaps for the Inner Engineering programme.

Interestingly, by the time we left, my headache had almost disappeared.

A Memorable Farewell Meal

Before leaving Coimbatore, we finally returned to Shree Anandhaas Restaurant.

One of the highlights was being served food on traditional banana leaves. Before the meal is served, it is customary to sprinkle water on the leaf and clean it. It was a simple tradition, but it made the dining experience feel more authentic.

We enjoyed dosa and fried rice, and it turned out to be one of our most memorable meals of the trip.

A practical tip for visitors: carry some cash when visiting places such as Adiyogi. While digital payments are common, some shops and food outlets may still prefer cash transactions.

Looking Back

Soon it was time to head to the airport and begin our journey back to Delhi.

As we waited for our delayed flight, I found myself reflecting on the week we had just experienced. From the mist-covered hills of Ooty and the peaceful charm of Coonoor to the deeply moving experience at Adiyogi, the journey had given us far more than photographs and souvenirs.

It gave us memories, conversations, and moments that will stay with us for a very long time.

And perhaps that is what makes a trip truly memorable.
